A visit to a cemetery is a walk back in time into the history of the proud, strong men and women who carved this nation out of a wilderness. They labored hard and too many died young back then, but their strength, their faith and often their good humor in the face of death’s inevitability are carved in stone telling and retelling their stories down through the generations.
The staff of Poplar Heights Farm, and many generous volunteers, bring you these cemetery records. If the individual’s name is highlighted, we have additional information on that individual such as an obituary, biography, photographs, news stories and other family history information. Several cemeteries in Bates County were assigned incorrect names during the 1980’s and these names were again used by researchers without verification of their accuracy. Additionally, some cemeteries have truly changed names over the years. We have attempted to correctly name each cemetery and in our listings include the inaccurate, or alternative names which, when selected, will take you to the correct cemetery. Some cemeteries have disappeared from record. Individuals have been moved, some several times, such that death certificates and funeral records may not indicate their current location. We are attempting to reconcile these issues and will continue to update our listings as new information becomes available.
